Reasonable Accommodations

No Universally Provided Accommodations

Attached please find comments submitted on behalf of The Arc of the United States. In response to SSA's IdeaScale question, The Arc does not believe that there are any reasonable accommodations that employers provide universally, such that SSA could assume they would be available to any claimant when the agency determines whether the claimant has the capacity to perform “any job in the national economy.” The Arc endorses the comments made by the Co-Chairs of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) Social Security, Rights, and Employment and Training Task Forces. We reiterate in our comments a number of the key points made by the CCD Task Force Co-Chairs, and concur that a presumption of universal accommodations would be inappropriate.
